When I wrote my young adult novel, ON THE WAY TO BIRDLAND, I never dreamed it would put me in contact with some of the heavyweights of the jazz world. It has truly been an honor to be invited to tour places like John Coltrane’s childhood home in High Point, North Carolina and to have private conversations with folks like John Scheinfeld, the mastermind behind the legendary documentary, CHASING TRANE. It’ll be equally as exciting to travel to the Hemphill Branch of the Greensboro Public Library next Saturday, April 15 for a special #JAZZAPPRECIATIONMONTH festival aptly named “A TRANE TO BIRDLAND”.
For all you young adult readers and jazz enthusiasts out there, I hope you’ll join us at this completely free event that begins at 2PM with a live screening of Chasing Trane. It continues with a CAFFE YA Book Club discussion that will focus on my novel, On the Way to Birdland, and finishes off with a special panel discussion and Q/A session with the filmmaker of Chasing Trane himself, Mr. John Scheinfeld.
There will be refreshments available as well, and all who attend will leave the event with a FREE signed copy of On the Way to Birdland courtesy of yours truly. It’s shaping up to be an incredible event that you won’t want to miss. Hope to see you there!
