There are some disadvantages to being an indie author, many of which boil down to the boring parts of the writing life: money, budgets, and time. But there are perks as well, the top among them being the ability to make long, lasting relationships with independent bookstore owners right in your own hometown.
Angel Schroeder, the owner of SUNRISE BOOKS (now the only bookstore in all of High Point, NC), is one of these brilliant, creative, hardworking, essential figures in my life. Her store is a whimsical paradise filled with books and book people, located on a historic stretch of literal Main Street in the straight up heart of North Carolina. I love the store, as do all citizens of my adopted hometown.
